  • voile de dériveur : grand-voile (FLYING DUTCHMAN) FD Ullman Sails
Made from Contender RS4 Polykote dacron with a high density radial clew for a stable lower batten
A lightweight leech line
Full-size anti-flutter patches over the seams to keep the leech exit clean
A shelf foot designed to carry the designed foil shape right down to foot
Zipper up luff for ultimate mast sail combination flexibility.
This sail is designed with the CST carbon mast in mind and has minimum luff round along the primary luff curve - this keeps the sails entry clean in light to moderate conditions and allows the spreaders to stay at one setting. (We found no need to force prebend into a mast that is designed to be stiff enough to load the forestay and properly control genoa shape.) The sail also has maximum foot length, allowing for maximum possible sail area when you need it.

For upper range performance, we have developed a zip that introduces extra luff round into the sail. The process is very simple and super effective – much the same and just as easy as selecting the correct genoa clew for a race. The zip is a macro adjustment. The procedure is to ease the outhaul, pull the preset line through the tack cleat, stand on the boom, pull the zip down and then set the outhaul tension. You can now set the lower mast bend to be sympathetic with a higher rig load, keeping a stable mainsail up range that can accommodate a low boom for an aggressive footing mode.

The Ullman Flying Dutchman main is a true development in one of the great development classes.
